Gynostemma is a native plant of Southeast Asia that has been valued for thousands of years for its longevity. The Chinese commonly consume Jiaogulan tea, also known as the “Immortality Herb,” for increased energy, stamina and strength, and to combat fatigue. Since it contains at least 100 saponins* that are remarkably similar to those of the ginseng family, it is also called “poor man's ginseng” or “southern ginseng” by locals. Surprisingly, Gynostemma has even more of these saponins* than ginseng! Gynostemma has incredible adaptogenic potential.

*Saponins are a special group of secondary plant substances that belong to the gyclosides. A plant produces saponins to protect against insect damage and the growth of bacteria and fungi.

Cultivated in the mountains of southwest China for thousands of years, jiaogulan is a wild herb consumed as tea or in soups.

Gynostemma is a great source of antioxidants and nutrients because it contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals including selenium, magnesium, zinc, calcium, iron, potassium, manganese and phosphorus.

Add 1 teaspoon to a cup of hot but not boiling water. Steep for about 1-2 minutes, strain and enjoy. The leaves are naturally so sweet and aromatic that a second or third steeping still produces pleasant tea. Make sure you do at least 2 rounds per 1 teaspoon serving.
