You can recognize the health by the white speckles on the leaf and the teeth that are already visible on the leaf tips.

It is best to take Aloe vera cuttings from March to September at the latest. Aloe vera grows best during this period because the sun shines more. You can also let Aloe vera take root in winter. You need to water even less than in the summer.

Place your Aloe vera cutting in a transparent jar, for example a small glass. It is fun to see how the roots are doing, but also very useful to see how moist the soil is.

• Plant the Aloe vera cutting in slightly moist soil (not wet).

• Let the soil dry out completely.

• Then moisten the soil slightly (do not drown!).

• It is good to tease your Aloe vera cuttings with little water.

Once your Aloe cutting has grown roots, you can transfer it to a larger pot so that the roots can continue to grow. If you do this correctly, your Aloe Vera cutting will grow into a healthy, mature plant with plenty of fresh Aloe Vera gel!

It is good to feed your Aloe vera cutting. However, this must be done with water and is therefore contrary to our advice to give very little water. Therefore, always give your cutting plant food when you water it, use cactus food or normal plant food. Pokon is also great for this.

The size of the pot also plays an important role in how well the cutting grows. As a rule of thumb you can use the following calculation:

The diameter of the pot = half the length (height) of the plant. So: if you have an Aloe vera cutting of 10cm high (= length), then place your cutting in a pot with a diameter of 5cm. So you divide the length of the cutting by two and then you have the diameter of the pot.

The disadvantage of a larger pot is that the soil stays moist longer. In a smaller pot you have more control over the water. If you have too large a pot, you have too large a water buffer. That's another reason not to water: moisture makes it easier for fungi to spread. Wet, moist soil is an ideal place for fungi to strike. If there is no moisture in the pot, you prevent mold formation. Therefore, make sure that the soil is not wet for too long (maximum 1 week). After cutting your Aloe vera, your cutting will produce a visible root within 1 to 4 weeks.

The start of your Aloe vera cutting is incredibly important for how it will grow later. Just as you grew up with fruit and vegetables, your Aloe vera grows up with light and warmth.

An Aloe vera cutting does not grow roots quickly if the temperature is too low. Therefore, make sure that the room where you place your cutting has an average daily temperature of at least 16 degrees Celsius, but the warmer the better.

Place your Aloe vera cutting in sunlight. As much as possible. On the windowsill in front of a south-facing window can be a good place if the average daytime temperature is at least 16 degrees in that room.

Do not water your cutting. The Aloe vera is used to desert temperatures. So not watering your Aloe vera cuttings is really not a problem. They are used to this. Place your cutting in slightly moist soil, but do not water afterwards.

It may go against your expectations, but the Aloe vera cutting will make roots when the soil becomes dry. You can see that the plant then “understands” that it has to make roots to look for water to survive.

If the soil has been bone dry for a few days, you can give the plant a little water again so that the soil is slightly moist again. You keep repeating this.
